About these terms

These terms cover the CarBuyerCheck website at carbuyercheck.uk, the iPhone and Android apps and the browser extension. CarBuyerCheck is run by Prado Consulting Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17312359), registered office Solutions House, Unit 10 Deepmore Close, Station Road, Wolverhampton WV10 7DB.

By using CarBuyerCheck you accept these terms. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data.

What CarBuyerCheck is

CarBuyerCheck puts together public records about a used car, mainly its DVSA MOT history, with statistics about similar cars, and gives you a report and a Buy Score to help you decide whether it’s worth a closer look.

A report is information, not advice, and not a vehicle inspection. It doesn’t check outstanding finance, write-off history, stolen status, VIN identity or ownership history. What we can’t check lists every limit.

Accuracy

Reports are only as good as the records behind them. Official records can be incomplete, late or wrong, and statistics for similar cars describe the model, not the car you’re looking at. The Buy Score is our opinion, worked out as our methodology describes.

Always inspect the car, check its documents and service history, and take a test drive before you buy. The decision to buy is yours.

Early access and prices

CarBuyerCheck is in early access. The website shows prices for full reports, but payments aren’t switched on and nothing is charged. Prices may change before they are. When payments open, the terms of sale will be added here before anything can be bought.

Each device gets one free check without an account. With a free account you can check as many cars as you like during early access, within fair use. The sample cars are always free. We may change these limits when payments open.

Features may change, pause or stop during early access.

Your account

Your first check doesn’t need an account. To check more cars, sign up free with Apple or Google on the website or in the apps; your cars then stay in sync between them. Your account is for you alone. Keep your devices secure, because anyone who can use your signed-in phone or browser can see your saved cars.

You can delete your account at any time on the website or in the app. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.

Fair use

CarBuyerCheck is for researching cars you’re thinking of buying or selling. Please don’t:

• make automated or bulk lookups, scrape reports, or get round our request limits or the free-check limit;
• resell reports or their data, or build a competing database from them;
• use CarBuyerCheck to track or identify people;
• interfere with the service, probe it for weaknesses or try to reach data that isn’t yours. If you find a security problem, email info@carbuyercheck.uk.

AutoTrader and other sites

CarBuyerCheck isn’t affiliated with AutoTrader, the DVSA, DVLA or DfT. AutoTrader is a trade mark of its owner. When you open AutoTrader in the app, you’re using AutoTrader’s website under its own terms, and adverts belong to the people who placed them. We read an advert’s car details only when you ask for a check.

Reports and our content

You can keep, print and share your reports for your own use, for example with the seller or a mechanic. The website, apps, Buy Score and report design belong to us. Reports contain public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

Our responsibility to you

We work hard to keep reports accurate and the service available, but we can’t promise either. We’re responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We’re not responsible for loss that isn’t foreseeable, or for business losses: CarBuyerCheck is for private use.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit. Nothing affects your legal rights as a consumer.

Changes

We may update these terms, for example when payments open or the law changes. We’ll change the date at the top, and the version shown here is the one that applies.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts where you live.
